I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
What this book tries to do is to tell the history of the world with the focus on the Silk Roads and the countries and peoples surrounding that, as opposed to a more Europe-centred (which is the version of events I've learned) or American-centred version of history - and it does this very well. It looks at history with the common thread being trade and teaches us that the centre of the world has not always been where it is.
It also not dry, which is pivotal to having any sort of enjoyment when reading about this subject matter for this many pages. The writing is engaging and I never felt overwhelmed with facts. It's written in a way that makes it both entertaining, educational and fascinating.
I would highly recommend this book. I do think it helps to have an interest in history, but you don't need to know a lot about it to read and enjoy it.
