Review:
I absolutely adore reading about lost cities and exploration, so it's no surprise that I really enjoyed reading this book. There aren't a lot of truly unexplored areas of the Earth left, and so reading about the discovery of one of them is pretty awesome.

Although the writing in this is not extraordinary, the author manages to bring life to the dense rainforest (screaming monkeys and all). You get a really good sense of the mystery and the magnificence of exploring such a place; the beauty and the terror of it. I also really like that you get a good understanding of Honduras, its culture and history, even if the book doesn't dig very deep.

What was a bit surprising about this book is that a little less than half of it is about the author and the team having contracted a rare and horrifying disease and it goes into details about the disease, the research of it, the treatment and so on. I assume some people would not like that part, because you pick this up to read about a lost city, not a flesh-eating disease. However, I thought that was really interesting.

I would've loved if this book had slightly more archeology in it, although that's just a personal preference. It was a fascinating and interesting read and I would definitely recommend it if you're like me, and love reading about history, lost cities and the wonder of it all (plus a disease that could eat your face).
